our history

The history of Broadmead Church started back in the 1960s with a local church outreach Sunday School for the Ramslye and Showfields estates, after two elderly sisters who moved to Ramslye started praying for a Sunday School for local children. In the 1970s the leaders of this Sunday School outreach were lead to seek the founding of a church for these estates and the Broadmead area generally. At the time the area was being developed by Brickmanís, who offered a site, free of charge, to the trustees to build a church. It took two years of prayer and preparation, while money was donated for the building and work started in 1979. Over a period of 18 months the building took shape with a large amount of the work being done by members to keep the costs down. The church was formally opened in February 1981.

For a short period the church name was changed to The Spring, but in 2010 the members decided to revert to the name of Broadmead Church reflecting nearly 50 years of activity in the area.

Over the years many have attended Broadmead Church on a Sunday and for weekly activities, kids club, youth work, toddlertime etc. The building can comfortably hold about 70 people, and current weekly attendance at services on Sundays range from 38 to 50. During the week there is a thriving Toddlertime, additionally Line dancing and Games evenings are popular. There are Art classes and Weight Watchers, and the building is used by the Borough council and Kent Count council for activities such as First Aid courses.

Over the past two years the building has been improved including disabled access and toilet and a sound loop system.
